Not owning the top of the filesystem hierarchy. Some of the above might be un-Mac-like, but they're a huge help to less experienced users, and they really don't hurt anyone. OSX is pretty disappointing so far. However, I've been using OS X Server since it came out. Pretty good for a Unix interface.

FAT32 vs. NTFS
Everything was working fine, but the filesystem was up around 92% full, hence the upgrade. I first replaced the 3 x 80 GB drives with 3 x 200 GB Western Digital drives (WD2000BB) and installed Mandrake 9.1, with disappointing results. To make a long story short, the XFS file system over RAID5 spammed my log files

Win2K supports both FAT and NTFS file systems, don't worry about it. One
thing I have found disappointing with GoBack on an XP system (as opposed to a 9x system) is the restore history. I attribute this to the increased overhead in the way of disk activity with XP and the NTFS file system. On the plus side with the increased stability of XP and the NTFS file system I've never

Disappointing. After a while, someone posted success setting up the disk with the disk manager (Ontracks or IBM OEM version for their large disks), as follows: (a) It seems that the rest of the file system is run as some sort of large virtual / extended partition. Anyway, I tried it, and it -- sort of -- works.

NeXT elected to do "something" on their own, and that "something" will apparently be Enterprise Objects, which is a high-end object management system, not a universal file system. It's rather disappointing, but it is unclear whether NeXT even -should- pioneer something like that on their own.

I use 'em both because of a somewhat disappointing history with GoBack. On a Win9x box GoBack keeps a couple three of weeks of history. On an XP box (using NTFS) the most I ever get is 5 or 6 days (even with the maximum GoBack buffer of 4GB. used), due I presume to the added overhead of the NTFS file system.

For example, Storage Computer has a disk subsystem that can today sustain reads of 22 MBps and sustain writes of 7 MBps from the disk drive to the file system. This does presume you have enough drives in the subsystem (about 12 gives peak performance, 48 drives is the max) and enough SCSI host adapters (12 is the
