Of course, the basic problem that PMDF Unix sites are having to deal with is the Unix file system, or better put, Unix's last of a much of a file system at all. It is disappointing that the release of PMDF that has been slated to fix the SleepyCat problems is not scheduled for distribution until late this year.

Norton GoBack vss. XP Restore
Greg : Just thought I should mention it - I have had a disappointing experience with PerfectDisk 5. It slowed my system on the overall, in spite of allowing it to manage I would also suggest running CHKDSK /R on the drive (may require a reboot to perform) in order to rule out any file system inconsistencies.

Oracle and Buffered I/O .... performance? Nope!
I found them a disappointing, not quite up to your normal quality level. ;-) Ie, they gave us no hint where we could improve the TDS proposal. May you please make up a more detailled critic? The TDS describes a structure that is usable (and should be used) on all platforms that have a hierarchical file system.

Comparison of NTFS/MFT recovery software?
This is suprising and very disappointing. Unofficially Microsoft hinted that we may be able to get our build process to run w/o errors using a network drive, but that we'ed be on our .... Although write requests proceed normally, close requests are acknowledged by the server, but are buffered from the file system.

how to get textual filesystem name on Linux?
If so, the initial results look to be disappointing. A few people have posted comparisons, but there has been little that has clearly favored one approach over the Meanwhile, Hans Reiser continues to complain about his treatment in linux-kernel, since his filesystem has not yet been merged into the kernel.

IMP 3.2.1 very slow
It seems to be what the data security companies get paid for (eg the veritas filesystem). Do you know of anything? I have used Veritas on some telephony we have been able to design fall quite a bit short of what is the theoretical limit, which is itself somewhat disappointing to those with naive expectations.

Common Dialog In WSH?
Our stuff benefits tremendously from Linux's superior dynamic file caching. We do a lot of repeated reads across many files and directories. NT's caching is disappointing. We used to run a dedicated machine that would have 80 of 128Mb RAM free, with files and directories being re-read from disk unnecessarily.

why mac?
When I last experimented with 3/4 drive RAID 0 arrays, I found that 64K stripes along with 64K clusters gave optimal performance, but the inefficiency of the file system running this cluster size was unacceptable for general use. c) The performance of the Maxtor ATA133 drives is disappointing (if you're talking

System Restore only uses resources as it makes a restore point. The rest of the time it is dormant. The other thing I find disappointing about GoBack is the limited I attribute this to the additional overhead in the way of disk activity for Windows XP and the NTFS file system. It is enough however to correct a

Famous But Incompetent: FBI Wastes Millions
From the section on system configuration: "Discovering that the swap area has been mis-specified and the new system just swapped over a user file system can be disappointing." Section 19.4, Protecting User Files: "If you ever re-boot the system for general use after a crash without checking out the file systems,

Would a Microsoft made game console sell? was: Get the hell ...
WE have put the SUN boxes on a UPS because the file system is so fragile. Yes, resilience is one of JFS' major selling points. It's less of a win for AIX these days, Most people who remember how the original RIOS chipset made performance headlines find the PowerPC's performance track record a bit disappointing.

Each hard drive formatted with the FAT file system contains a single physical bin folder named \Recycled. Each hard drive formatted with the NTFS file system The results were disappointing - the recycled bin seems to be extremely poorly documented. But
it makes me think of mainframes and a proprietary file system, which would mean you can't just take your existing SAP, Exchange and StorNext filesystem .... Well I hope I'm not disappointing ! Did you think you scared me into hiding with your biting sarcasm :-) It is as trivial in this particular example of

Disk partitioning
If you delete a partion, or even install a file system on it that Windows can't read, it will change the drive letters for all the partitions above it. Other OSes have their own way of shutting down the system. No it doesn't Earl. I thought you said you're always honest. How disappointing.

XP system restore and Go Back
Hmmm,
after some actual testing, the results are disappointing. Also, I found a glitch - NetPositive saves its history as bookmarks in /tmp and then moves them to its history directory, which doesn't work if the directory is on a different drive. That's evil, software should assume /tmp is a separate filesystem.

My question to all of you -- how hard would it be for some of you to sit down and write an Installable File System that extends all other filesystems (FAT, HPFS and CDFS anyway) or Instead we provide an extra "Save..." option to each objects context menu. Windows drag and drop is very disappointing! -Paul.

IDC Says Win95 users MORE PRODUCTIVE!!!???
Mac OS X Server is unix and it installs on a unix file system partition which does not support the resource fork/data fork tradition. I don't know what is going to happen with Mac OS X Consumer, but I do know that it's going to be different and surprise a lot of people. Best wishes, sjfromm Sent via Deja.com

Funny manpage typo
The backups (Lucy/Win98->Fred/Win98) copied over my 10BaseT network with an average rate of about 250 kByte/sec, measured using the System Monitor on Fred and watching File-system bytes written. While disappointing (theoretical maximum is about 4 times that rate; the Ethernet is otherwise idle as are both Fred and

System Restore or GoBack?
All four disks are different, so I do not expect "optimum" performance, but my results were still disappointing :( According to iozone benchmark, brought back up in case of a drive failure (any one of the 4 disks can go, even two different ones can go), while providing one big partition for a big file-system.

Win 2000 v win 9x
Each upgrade has been ever more disappointing for Microsoft. Win 3.1 was a barn burner selling millions a month (can't remember what the first 6 months was but I As I recall one of the favorite ones was to get a modern file system with long name capability.
